Salmon with Summer Tomato Salsa
Health benefits:
High-Quality Protein: Salmon is an excellent source of high-quality protein, which is essential for muscle repair and maintenance, and helps keep you feeling full longer. This is crucial for bariatric patients as it supports weight management and muscle health.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory properties. This can help reduce inflammation in the body, potentially improving overall health and aiding in recovery post-surgery.
Low in Saturated Fat: This recipe uses minimal olive oil and no added saturated fats, making it a heart-healthy choice. Bariatric patients benefit from low-fat options to support cardiovascular health.
Rich in Vitamins: Salmon provides important vitamins such as B12 and vitamin D. Vitamin B12 is crucial for red blood cell formation and neurological function, while vitamin D supports bone health and immune function.
Antioxidants from Salsa: The tomatoes and basil in the salsa provide antioxidants such as lycopene and vitamin C. Antioxidants help protect cells from damage and support overall immune health.
Low Caloric Density: This dish is low in calories but nutrient-dense, making it ideal for bariatric patients who need to manage caloric intake while still receiving essential nutrients.
Hydration: The salsa includes cucumbers and tomatoes, which are high in water content. Proper hydration supports digestion and overall bodily functions, which is beneficial for bariatric patients.
Digestive Health: The fiber from tomatoes, cucumber, and basil supports digestive health by promoting regular bowel movements and reducing the risk of constipation, which can be a concern after surgery.
Improved Satiety: The combination of protein from the salmon and fiber from the salsa helps to enhance satiety, reducing the likelihood of overeating and aiding in portion control.
Support for Metabolism: The nutrients in salmon and the fresh ingredients in the salsa support metabolic functions, helping to regulate energy levels and optimize metabolic processes, which is important for weight management.
